Once upon...

an evening boring, while I pondered bored yet pensive,
Over many a strange and intriguing page of neglected blogs.
Swiftly, my mind began thinking, thinking of creating
A place of solace, of mapping of my thoughts and creations.
So welcome dear guests, if my words entice you.

Writing every day

I’m trying to post something everyday whether it be in LiveJournal or in Solace. It’s good to write more often as it exercises my writing ability and may help when I start writing college essays. The problem is, I’m having trouble coming up with topics to write, so this entry may as well be random.

So far this spring to summer, I’ve been to Disney World, a fair, a hot air balloon show, fishing, and the Lincoln Museum. You’d think I have loads to write. I’m also reading the last Harry Potter book. So far I’m only on pg 284. I’ve had that book for four days now but I just couldn’t bring myself to finishing it as it is the last book. Finishing it will be bitter sweet as I’ll still have this feeling / anticipation of another book next summer. Of course in the back of my mind I know this is the last one.

I was casually eating beef jerky with teriyaki flavor when I decided to look at the ingredients. The first ingredient was soy sauce. The second biggest ingredient was sugar. Then sake which apparently contains glucose, sweet rice extract, water, salt and lactic acid. No wonder the beef jerky tasted sweeter than salty. The entire contents contains 40 grams of sugar, but the good news is it contains 64 grams of protein.

My brother T is hooked on Rune Scape. He’s been hooked on video and computer games in general for the longest time, possibly since the age of 5, though back then not so much as now. He can play Rune Scape for hours on end daily. Looking back, I was somewhat addicted to computer games the summer after fifth grade, roughly the same age as my brother now.

I’ve been watching episodes of Rurouni Kenshin since two years ago, and I’m still not done with the series. I’m currently on episode 85 though, so there’s only ten episodes to go. I’ve been watching tens of episodes on YouTube so the quality of the graphics isn’t too great, but I’m not complaining. It’s good enough for me.

As for the graphics update, I’ve added several more layouts, some PNGs and wallpaper.

What different colors mean

I’ve had a long period of writer’s block. Today I was determined to find something to write about when I came across a site that had lists of writing topics. The chosen topic is “what different colors mean”, so voila!

Red is peaceful as the setting sun. It is intense and full of emotions as red is such a bright color. Red symbolizes good luck in Chinese cultures. In Russia, red means beautiful. In South Africa, red means mourning. A “red-letter day” is one of special importance and good fortune. Red is the color most commonly found in national flags. If a business is “in the red,” it is losing money.

Green is the color of growth and healing. In ancient Greece, green symbolized victory. Green means “go.” When “all systems are green,” it means everything is in order. Green is youthful. “Green with envy” means full of envy or jealousy.

Blue is a serene color that is relaxing and peaceful. “Feeling blue” is feeling sad. If you are “true blue,” you are loyal and faithful. Something “out of the blue” is from an unknown source at an unexpected time. A “bluestocking” used to be a scholarly or highly knowledgeable woman. The pharaohs of ancient Egypt wore blue for protection against evil. Blue stands for love, which is why a bride carries or wears something blue on her wedding day.

Purple is the color of royalty. In Thailand, purple is worn by a widow mourning her husband’s death. A “purple heart” is a U.S. military decoration for soldiers wounded or killed in battle. Purple robes are an emblem of authority and rank. “Purple prose” is writing that is full of exaggerated literary effects and ornamentation. Leonardo da Vinci believed that the power of meditation increases 10 times when done in a purple light, as in the purple light of stained glass. Purple in a child’s room is said to help develop the imagination according to color theory.

Yellow is a symbol of jealousy and deceit. In Egypt and Burma, yellow signifies mourning. In Japan during the War of Dynasty in 1357, each warrior wore a yellow chrysanthemum as a pledge of courage. Yellow has good visibility and is often used as a color of warning. It is also a symbol for quarantine, an area marked off because of danger.

White is the color of truthfulness. A white flag is the universal symbol for truce. White means mourning in China and Japan. Angels are usually depicted wearing white robes. The ancient Greeks wore white to bed to ensure pleasant dreams. The ancient Persians believed all gods wore white. It’s considered good luck to be married in a white garment.

Black often stands for secrecy. The ancient Egyptians and Romans used black for mourning, as do most Europeans and Americans today. Black humor is morbid or unhealthy and gloomy humor. A “blackhearted” person is evil. A black belt in karate identifies an expert.

Layouts

Between yesterday and today, I have made three layouts. One layout features the night sky and is titled “Moonlight Sonata”. Another features an Asian type book and uses iframes. Another layout is somewhat romantic with a rose and sheetmusic in the background. I’ve also made three wallpapers a while ago, as well as buttons and signatures. Check them out if you have time and tell me what you think of them.

My summer class is almost over. Tomorrow will be my last day. I’m taking another summer course (Calculus II) after that though so I only have five off days. Also, My aunt came last Saturday, and she’s giving me singing lessons.
