An Important Year

This school year has been a crucial turning point in my life. I’m finally pursuing a college degree in an art program. The entire year has been devoted to taking core art courses and preparing a portfolio for the art program to determine which art department I am qualified for in the remaining three years.

I was lucky to be qualified for both industrial design and art education. I talked to someone who as already graduated from industrial design and was surprised to know that there were only twenty people in her class. If you know me, you’d know that I’m a very quiet person, so art education would be hard for me to pursue, so I chose industrial design. I am also more interested in industrial design than art education, as I find it interesting to design objects that people use. There’s a wide range of what I can design, such as furniture, toys, appliances, electronics, and even computer interfaces.

I’ll also be pursuing a computer science minor which is compatible with industrial design since industrial designers should have some knowledge of computers, engineering, and business. I’m hoping I’ll be well prepared for a career when I graduate.

I’ve also drawn a lot since my last art update and will be posting more images, possibly after final exams which are May 12th-13th.

This year over all has been very satisfying. I’ve made many new friends and I hang out with a group every weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) as well as on Mondays and Wednesdays. I’ve also hopefully changed and become more talkative. I know I’m more talkative than I was last year when I had very few friends. I watch less anime, am less involved with the blogging community, have lost several blogging friends…maybe, lost an Internet friend, but real life has been going pretty well. I’d like to thank M for all this as he was the one who introduced me to so many people and has asked me to hang out so much. There’s only two more weeks of school remaining and I’m thinking I’ll really miss my friends this summer. My perspective of the world has changed as well, but I don’t feel comfortable writing about that yet.

How has your (school) year been? Is there anything life changing that has/had occurred?

I checked out your gallery, and I think you’d do very well pursuing an art degree.
Glad your school year has gone well. The year just flies by, eh? I’m gonna be out in two weeks. >>

I applaud you for pursuing an fine arts degree! For myself, even if it weren’t for the fact that I cannot thrive on the idea of commercializing my own creations, I’m still reluctant to pursue just a fine arts degree — the only way I am doing an Art Theory degree, is coupling it with something I find less reliant on my own creativity — law. So yes, I think it’s great and practical that you’re ding a computer science minor. :)
