Once upon...

an evening boring, while I pondered bored yet pensive,
Over many a strange and intriguing page of neglected blogs.
Swiftly, my mind began thinking, thinking of creating
A place of solace, of mapping of my thoughts and creations.
So welcome dear guests, if my words entice you.

Candy Books

The girl walks in a nearby book store on the first of Summer, and her wide sparkling eyes start wandering every which way like a kid in a candy shop trying to pick out just a few candies from among so many delicious looking ones. There are arts and crafts books, dream interpretation books, classical literature, rows and rows of beautiful manga, and even shelves full of role playing books. It took quite a while before she realized what she was in there for, and with a disappointed downward glance and a slight frown, she sighs. Off to the information desk she walks, asking the lady at the desk urgently for books on Oracle databases.

The lady asks “what?”

“Oracle databases” the girl replies.

“Can you spell that? I-I mean I know how to spell Oracle…” says the lady after catching a puzzled look on the girl’s face.

“Data-bases” the girl replies enunciating the word for she had a habit of being soft-spoken.

“Oh! Databases!” the lady finally understood and leads the girl to rows of books on computers and networking.

On a top shelf to the far right, there are two very thick and thorough books on Oracle 10g and 11g. She picks up a book and skims through its dry content full of computer jargon. The girl looks frantically for a book on Oracle for Dummies…but none can be found. There is a SQL Server 2005 for Dummies, but the girl knows she needs one for Oracle. Disappointed, she picked the one on Oracle 11g and drives home.

Have you ever gone into a store wanting to buy some cool stuff only to realize what you needed to buy wasn’t very desirable? Stories are very much welcome. Oh yeah, it was the 2nd of summer aka today that this story took place, but 1st of summer sounds so much more significant to me.

I wonder if another bookshop had a dummy version of what you wanted? Two copies doesn’t seem like much choice to me…! But then I hardly know what your book is on..:P

Actually, some of the time, what I want to buy *is* very desirable — it’s only when I ask them for something, and they act all know-it-all and tell me doesn’t exist, that makes the whole process rather tiresome, and hence what I want less desirable. :(

Yeah… Whenever I have to just go get necessities, instead of new clothes or something, lol.

It happens quite a lot to me actually, that what I want isn’t all that when I finally do get it.

It has always seemed that for most programming languages, the internet is the best source for tutorials. aside from being convenient and having plenty to choose from, it also happens to be free, leaving more resources for those books before the ‘disappointed downward glance’.

Heh yeah I ended up just using the Internet as my resource for everything I can’t code/don’t understand fully myself. I was going to return the book but I couldn’t find the receipt. T.T

There are times when I go to the mall to buy something in particular but end up getting something else.

Heavy computer books tend to be expensive =( That and heavy and tedious to read through xD

*scratches head* Oracle? Either way, the only time I’ve gone in a bookstore for something undesirable is for text books, lol

I rather use the internet then go to the bookstore. Need to save gas, cause the price are high!

I like your gallery images; I esp like the ‘markers’ section and the ‘pencil’ drawings. good job!

If I can’t find what I want in a brick & mortar - especially books - I usually go online to get ‘em.

I have never had that experience but I feel oddly like I can sympathize with it. I always have the experience of seeing loads of cool stuff I would die to have but I don’t have any cash whatsoever.
