Opening Day
Something concerning this new layout feels…not quite right. Sure I like the color red, but to create a layout using mainly red black and grey is bland in comparison to past layout projects. Red is sometimes an irritable color as it is so bright, and though I like the red and black combination, when I think of solace, the first colors that come to mind are blue, grey, and white since blue is such a calming color. Perhaps it’s not too late to change the sky to a light blue in stead of blood red.
I’m sorry I’m freaking out about the aesthetics more than the contents, yet strangely, people who like the aesthetic appeal of a site tend to form confirmation biases such that even if the contents are shallow – to a certain extent – the site is more appreciated than a site not so aesthetically appealing. Appearances are more quickly noticeable than written craftsmanship, and first impressions are pretty important.
If I continue finding faults and fixing them, however, finding an opening date for this site may come more slowly than what’s healthily necessary. Besides, I’m neglecting other projects in the process of developing this one, so I say, “the heck with perfectionism!” This then, shall be my opening day!
Please bare with me as I enter a layout changing frenzy.Edit on December 31st: There shall be no layout changing frenzies!

Wow! This looks simply amazing. I envy you.
Yes, people are more inclined to revisit a site that is aesthetically appealing. This layout is. It’s different. What does the favicon character mean? My Chinese needs work. Ideally, you’d want great looks and content.
Instead of changing layouts all the time, I think there’s a Wordpress Plugin out there that allows visitors to choose layouts, so you can have more than one out at once. It’s probably listed in the Wordpress Codex somewhere.
Oh, and your single post pages doesn’t seem to include a sidebar…
wow your site is great, your color choices are quite nice ^.^ … though – stepping out of line – i have similar thoughts on red. i think the effect is great, but my first impression was an oriental kind of feel because red is used a lot in chinese cultures. the fade from red to gray in the background especially reminded me of china in the early 20th century. the effect of the color for me at least was a warm, lazy feel, kinda the feeling of peace after a long day… a word would be stability? standing in your shoes, i’d use blues, whites and other calm colors, but i think your site projects a different kind of solace. me like.
the character is shu as in comfort right? quite fitting.
This layout is fantastic, I absolutely love this layout. It’s so pretty!
Yea, blue would be a great color to use.
The favicon character is shu, which means comfort. It’s my Chinese name. Thanks for noticing that my single post pages don’t have a sidebar. I fixed it now. Thanks also for thinking that my web site is aesthetically appealing!
Well, red is fine with me (: But I do notice how many of your past layouts use a lot of purples and blues. By the way, ‘border-left’ on your comments could be a little more evident? I can hardly see it…
Just an example for me to seem superficial, yes, I care much about first impressions >
wow! I’m in love with your layout!
